The Best Restaurants in Holmfirth: Food Worth Waiting For!

1. The Hideout

A niche restaurant and bar, serving all-day brunch in a double-story dining experience with a small pet-friendly patio.

We’re fans of the weird and wonderful, and The Hideout in Holmfirth certainly fits the bill. It’s a quirky little space that’s blown expectations out of the water since its opening in 2020.

It’s an intricate space that’s comfortably chaotic in the best of ways. The decor is incredibly fitting, from the industrial-style word lights, wall-to-wall panels of thick foliage, and irks memories of treehouses and hidden paradises. Everything from the patio to the second-story dining area is well thought out and sprinkled with fun little nuances if you know where to look.

Everyone is made to feel at home here, even your dog (this is one of the most dog-friendly restaurants in Holmfirth after all), and owner Chris is often spotted greeting each table and getting to know patrons. The staff is equally attentive and incredibly friendly, making for an all-around pleasant experience.

They’re open in time for a late breakfast, where the menu is filled with delicious delicacies from a stacked plate of sweet and fluffy American Pancakes to a savoury Smoked Salmon Scramble. If you’re in the mood for something to really power you through your day, might we also suggest their Breakfast platter? It comes in clutch with an array of pastries, fruit, and muffins to eat alone or share with a loved one.

When you’re ready for lunch, there’s an array of versatile options. You can pick from a list of incredible toasties, often on display in their restaurant, or order a tasty Pizza Wrap (which can also be vegetarian if you choose). But perhaps their most unique offering is the Chicken Waffles they serve, which locals and tourists can’t get enough of! All of which make a return on Friday and Saturday nights for dinner.

Did we mention the incredible cocktails on offer too? Well, they’ve got all the favourites and some house specialties too! Could they be any more perfect?

  • Opening Hours: Closed Tues & Wed; 10 am to 4 pm Thurs; Sun & Mon; 10 am to 11:30 pm Fri & Sat

2. The Winking Stag

A niche venue known for live music, cocktails and a Japanese-fusion menu you won’t want to miss out on!

When The Winking Stag started its journey, the vision was simple: “Ramen and cocktails.” They have since created a breathtaking “bespoke experience” and have risen in popularity over the years, even when a new team took the reins.

Their charming venue is quaint and cosy, with a rustic bare brick face appearance enhanced by the natural textures of wood and leather. It’s chic without trying too hard and offers ample space to have a good evening with your closest friends and family.

And, if you’re looking for a vibey spot to enjoy great live music, The Winking Stag is your best bet for great atmosphere. Most Friday nights, you’ll be able to find live musicians playing away to a happy crowd in the Cellar lounge. And Sundays are dedicated solely to “Sunday Stag Sessions.” where they showcase unique up-and-coming bands.

Of course, with incredible line-ups comes the inevitability of booking out, so we’d recommend booking your table early to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere.

And speaking of vibrant, the cuisine served here is colourful and enticing. The menu dedicates itself to Japanese fusion and has a host of delicious meals for you to enjoy. “We’re still figuring out our favourites,” manager Tom told Wandering our World, but “Our Honey, Soy, and Ginger Crispy Squid has been a guest favourite so far.”

You can choose from a host of delicacies and even order small plates to share with your group. But, of course, this works better if you’re coming to enjoy a cocktail evening, especially on weekends when they often advertise a “2-4-” special on selected cocktails on Social Media.

The Winking Stag is a comfortable and friendly place. “Even though we’re a niche establishment, we have very strong community links and a great and growing group of regulars,” they told Wandering Our World. And with their ever-growing popularity, we’re sure to see some big changes coming from what we think is one of the most exciting restaurants in Holmfirth and surrounding West Yorkshire.

3. Savaro

A true taste of Lebanese cuisine in a dazzling and vibrant venue, perfect for sharing special moments!

There’s no secret that food is the gateway to culture. If you’ve ever traveled, as we have, you’ll know that trying new cuisines is one of the best parts of the experience. Well, the best part is global influence brings the experience to you.

Savaro in Holmfirth introduces the fragrant flavours of Lebanese cuisine and transports guests to foreign shores. The down-to-earth venue brings a splash of vibrance to your dinners. Colourful walls, with simplistic design and decor, create a welcoming atmosphere.

The large dining area provides ample seating, and the well-trained, friendly staff make busy services seem like a breeze. They float between tables and offer a seamless dining experience where your biggest concern is making sure you leave space for dessert.

Mouth-watering fragrances elevate the senses and prepare the guests for the exciting meals being prepared in the kitchen.

Lebanese cuisine is best shared and enjoyed amongst company. So for starters, we’d recommend choosing a host of hot and cold mezze for the table. This opens up the opportunity for you and your dinner party to indulge in a range of flavourful dishes without overloading your stomach.

You wouldn’t want to fill up on mezze when there are still mains and desserts to think about. The mains are fragrant and loaded with spices that permeate flavor and elevate the delicious tastes of the fresh ingredients. Levant dishes hero meats like chicken, lamb, and fish, and Savaro serves up a mean Kesteleta!

Additionally, if you follow a more plant-based diet, you can rest assured knowing you can find a delicious selection of beautifully crafted vegetarian dishes.

And when you’re finally ready to end the night with a bang, there are delicious desserts like a flakey, nutty Baklawa. Or, an extra glass of their robust, Lebanon-import wines.

4. Whippet & Pickle

An unassuming, fine-dining restaurant in the heart of Holmfirth serving a fusion menu of American and English delicacies.

Walking down Holmfirth’s cobblestone lanes, you might be lucky to stumble across The Whippet & Pickle. Trust us, when we heard the name, we pictured a cutesy little pub and were pleasantly surprised to discover just how wrong we were!

It’s a double-story dining escapade that displays the utmost class and fine-dining quirks while maintaining a casual and relaxed atmosphere. There’s no requirement for fancy dress and pristine table manners, which makes it all the more welcoming and comfortable to visit.

Their menu is focused on a well-composed allotment of recipes that have been crafted to perfection. Everything is there to appeal to your senses, from dinners to desserts and even a curated wine selection.

Their seasonal offerings use locally sourced ingredients to create a mouth-watering display of unbelievable flavours. Open breakfast, lunch, and dinner for superb food; there’s ample opportunity to tuck into a meal here, depending on your schedule and cravings.

You can find the classic array of humble, homely dishes like a full English for breakfast. But if you’re craving something different, why not try their Waffles or Mexican-inspired Rancheros.

Moving on to lunch, they serve an array of tasty sandwiches and handhelds, from gourmet burgers to a pulled pork toastie that will tide you over until afternoon tea.

The seasonal menus often feature delicious local venison, succulent fish, and a small selection of vegetarian-friendly dishes for dinner. Unfortunately, choosing a favourite is hard, as the menu undergoes changes that often bring in new challengers for the dish that wins your heart.

One thing remains unchanged, though, The Whippet and Pickle is certainly one of the best restaurants in Holmfirth and a worthwhile visit if you’re ever passing through.

5. Holme Coffee House

A small and vibrant independent pet-friendly coffee house serving local roasts and contemporary foods.

Holme Coffee House takes its coffee seriously! This hole-in-the-wall coffee shop has all the potential to give big brands like Starbucks a run for their money and happens to be one of the most dog friendly restaurants in Holmfirth too.

Their popularity has spiked over the years. While the small venue can only hold around 20 people for a sit-down experience, they pride themselves on quick and efficient service to ensure walk-ins feel welcome.

The friendly staff is more than accommodating and offers enthusiastic service with a smile. You can look forward to beautiful ‘Cuppacino’ art and a team that will definitely gush over your dog (if he tags along).

They’re open from early morning until late afternoon, serving a menu full of wholesome breakfasts and delicious lunches that will have you coming back for more.

Their approach to food is contemporary, taking modern twists and infusing culinary tricks to create mouth-watering meals.

Breakfast sandwiches, Eggs Your Way, and even French toast encompass what’s on offer for breakfast. With vegan and gluten-free options available to suit your dietary needs. For drinks, perhaps a simple cappuccino or an indulgent Affagato with biscoff crumb made with the local Beans Brothers roast.

For lunch, you can indulge in a selection of bistro-style sandwiches and paninis made fresh to order and chocked full of delicious ingredients. And if you’re looking for something healthy, we’d recommend the Buddha bowl, packed with fresh greens and your choice of proteins.

6. Mezze Bar

A cosy cafe-style setting specialising in Mezze-style dishes from Greece, Turkey and the Middle East.

Mezze Bar has been around since 2008, with passionate owners Adam and Sam wanting to bring the elaborate tastes of Mediterranean cuisine to the small town of Holmfirth.

Big personalities often pack themselves in small packages, and in the case of Mezze Bar, this saying rings true.

The small restaurant brings heaps of charisma to your evening out, offering an eclectic selection of mezze-inspired dishes and fantastic food from across the Mediterranean and the Middle East.

They describe their menu as a “culinary tour,” and we share the sentiments. But, notably, unlike most Mediterranean restaurants, they stray from sticking to one cuisine and instead share a versatile spread of culinary treats from across the Mediterranean.

From Morrocan Tagines, Greek Kleftedes, and scrumptious Arabian flatbreads, you’re completely spoiled for choice from the range of delicious foods. You should come with a group and order a mess of plates to share amongst the table. After all, meals across the Mediterranean are about sharing and socializing.

The restaurant also serves a selection of wines imported from all corners of the globe and carefully chosen to best enhance your meals. Robust Chilean Merlots, sparkling French Prosseco, and beautifully bodied Australian Chardonnays adorn the pages and beckon to be poured.

Their popularity has become iconic around town, and the small venue often finds itself bursting at the seams with hungry patrons. So we recommend booking a table to avoid disappointment as this is one of most popular restaurants in Holmfirth.

The staff is expertly trained, and owner Adam acts as the Front of House and ensures each evening runs smoothly and without fuss. Guests are made to feel welcomed and like a part of the family.

With all that they offer, Mezze Bar is definitely worthy of being named one of the best restaurants in Holmfirth.

7. Lou & Joe’s Burger Co

A throwback to American diners where the shakes are thick and creamy and the burgers are mouth wateringly delicious!

If you’ve ever wanted to indulge in an all-out American feast, find your way down to Lou & Joe’s Burger Co. While burgers are nothing new to the locals, this unassuming restaurant might be the best burger spot in Holmfirth.

Their goal is to squeeze happiness between a bun, and in that regard, they’ve succeeded. They support local suppliers, meaning everything is fresh and ready to give you the most delectable burger you’ve ever had. They source their beef from local farmers, and their “tribe” gets to work on mincing and flavouring the meat to create what many can only describe as the perfect burger patty.

The menu is simple and focuses on what really matters, glorifying that rich and delicious handheld that’s a beloved part of global cuisine.

You can have them skinny, standard, or stacked, depending on how hungry you are, and choose from a variety of different flavour combinations. So whether you like it spicy or sweet, they’ve got something on the menu for you. And you can even swap out for gluten and dairy-free alternatives.

Pair your burger with a packed plate of fries, and yes, those have options too or pick a side of Mac’n’Cheese, Chicken Poppers, or Wings to sate whatever other hunger you might feel.

But make sure to save space for dessert or at least one of their gut-busting Milkshakes where you’re in charge of the flavours. Pick from a selection of toppings, dab on some whipped cream, and prepare to put yourself in a food-induced coma.

Lou and Joe’s is the ultimate venue to experience comfort-food bliss, and the restaurant itself exudes a comfortable and casual atmosphere. It’s rustic, it’s simple, but boy, is it everything you could ever want! For comfort food, this place is easily one of the best restaurants in Holmfirth.

8. Corner House Cafe

A quaint and cute little corner cafe that serves some of the best breakfasts in town in a down-to-earth setting.

There’s something lovable about small and cosy cafes that people can’t seem to get enough of. And Corner House Cafe is one of the most beloved breakfast restaurants in Holmfirth.

If you’re looking for a great way to start your day, you should make your way down to Station Road. The smell of freshly brewed coffee spills out the doorway, and the atmosphere is filled with early morning chatter.

The menu is precise and offers a wonderful selection of breakfasts and brunches. Depending on how hungry you’re feeling, you could order a small or a large breakfast plate, which takes its inspiration from the classic and unforgettable English Breakfast.

But the best part is breakfast runs throughout their service. Of course, we know that not everyone is a breakfast person, so the rest of the menu will put your mind at ease. There are Hot Sandwiches, stuffed Jacket Potatoes, and those all-important Toasties.

Take it to-go but to really indulge in the full experience, we’d recommend taking a seat, inside or outside, weather permitting. It’s nothing out of the ordinary and offers the homely comforts of cafes all around the world. It’s rustic and understated. Nothing is overbearing, and the atmosphere is entirely created by the patronage that comes to visit.

The cafe seats a surprising amount of people but be warned, it can get fairly busy, and as the kitchen makes meals to order, there can be a small wait for food. But don’t get disheartened. It’s well worth it!

It’s easy to see why locals love the Corner House Cafe and why it’s one of our favourite restaurants in Holmfirth.
