South Sudan is a beautiful, welcoming and friendly country, but it’s also a country which has suffered greatly in recent years.

So it’s understandable that many people – like yourself! – have read about South Sudan and want to do something to help. Such as volunteering your time and skills.

However it’s not always so easy to find volunteer opportunities in South Sudan, Juba, and the rest of the country, so that’s why we’re here to help!

We’ve collated some of the best volunteer roles in South Sudan and Juba – some with local organizations, others with large international NGOs – to get you started on your volunteering adventure.

One great book you have to get is Peter Martell’s First Raise a Flag: How South Sudan Won the Longest War but Lost the Peace – Martell’s been reporting on South Sudan for the BBC for years.

Nicholas Coghlan’s Collapse of a Country: A Diplomat’s Memoir of South Sudan is another must-read.
