This laid-back friendly restaurant is a chilled out place to dine, and quite a photogenic one too. Especially as the pig theme pops up every now and then, and the fact that as the day turns into night, LED lights are switched on changing the restaurant’s whole ambiance.
James and Dave keep innovating and changing the menu, so there is always something exciting to look forward to – even if you’ve visited before.
They describe their food as British bistro food with a twist, and on your visit we suggest starting off with the pork belly bites tossed in their ultimate, 20-ingredient BBQ sauce.
Or try to resist the urge to order any starters and just patiently wait for the real deal—the main course. We recommend their signature braised pork belly with black pudding bon bon, creamy mash, braised carrot, and a smooth cabbage puree. The pork belly has an amazing umami flavour, and the crackling is just the right amount of salty and crispy. Why not pair the pork belly with a Riesling as the sharpness of the Riesling will really cut through the pork belly.
For dessert, the chocolate brownie with honeycomb ice-cream is popular and the ultimate way to end a fantastic dining experience. Their roast on Sundays is also popular, however, you often need to book weeks in advance to get a table – that’s how good it is!

2. Bare Grills
Some of the American South’s best barbeque and juiciest burgers can be found in good old Weston-super-Mare at the wonderfully named Bare Grills. And, yes we love the pun too!
With country music playing in the background, this restaurant resembles an American smokehouse and is a fun experience. So, what should you order? Well, that’s a difficult question because everything is so delicious that it’s hard to make up your mind.
But, since it’s a barbecue joint, we think you should order the BBQ tower. It comes in a three-tier tea stand, which is a great reminder that you’re still in England! It has sliders, a full rack of pork ribs, pulled pork, smoked brisket, chicken wings, corn, slaw, baked bread rolls, onion rings, and a double side of French fries. It’s the perfect way to try everything on the menu without emptying your wallet.
And if you are a fan of milkshakes, they’ve also got the adult version—the hard shakes. It’s basically milkshakes with whiskey. While we’re on the subject of drinks, why not order a glass of bourbon with your barbecue. The bourbon’s from the south, the barbeque’s from the south; it’s a match made in country heaven.
Of course, you might have a food baby by this point, but if you can you should also try the mac and cheese. It is rich, creamy, and brilliantly seasoned.

3. The Old Thatched Cottage
To commemorate a special night with special company, The Old Thatched Cottage will be at your service. With their exceptional sea view from their terrace, cosy fire pits, and excellent food, this steak and seafood restaurant are masters of crafting a magical experience for their customers.
The cottage, being the oldest building in town, was constructed as a holiday home in the 18th century but now presents a quintessential blend of original 18th century character with modern comfort.
Cottages are, of course, the embodiment of cosiness and charm, which the restaurant remains faithful to now. Particularly with its 18th century thatched roof, which we believe is also the only thatched roof in Weston-super-Mare!
The restaurant’s focus is clearcut with many all-day dining options featuring popular dishes from the lunch and dinner menus, brunch, Sunday lunch, and even a children’s menu.
The kleftiko and their steaks, sourced from award-winning farmers, should easily be considered a culinary masterpiece. For the kleftiko, this succulent slow-cooked lamb is so soft it falls off the bone and is served with roasted potatoes and Mediterranean vegetables.
As for their steak, this is one of their specialities and they are known for serving up some of the best in the region. To seal off a perfect night, we recommend the Eton mess, a fluffy, light, and fruity dessert that pairs well with a filling meal.

4. Loves Café
Loves is a quaint, vegan eatery that is ideal for people who want some of the best plant-based food in the region.
While the menu is a little limited, it’s very high quality with some fantastic brunch and lunch choices. The butterbean mash and the pancakes are delicious brunch options. But for lunch you should go for the gochujang cauliflower and aubergine flatbread. The gochujang really amps up the spice element.
Loves is not just a vegan café; it also serves as a community mainstay. They showcase art by local artists and there’s a great selection of books and a delightful book club for all the bibliophiles.
Local musicians and indie bands play at Loves occasionally too, and for the film buffs, they hold independent film screenings.

5. The Milton Larder
Known as Weston’s worst kept secret, The Milton Larder is the go-to spot for breakfast in Weston-super-Mare!
Breakfast is served til late here, and if you show up for breakfast before 11 am, you may even get free pancakes for your little ones. Everyone raves about the homemade cheesecakes at Milton’s too, and they are worth the hype—the best in Weston for sure. In fact, if we’re honest those cheesecakes are enough of a reason to add Milton’s to our list of the best Weston-super-Mare restaurants.
But if you fancy one of the classics, then opt for their All Day Breakfast which consists of bacon, sausage, fried slice or toast, grilled tomato, baked beans, mushrooms, fried or poached free range egg and fried potatoes.
Aside from the cheesecakes, we think the most enticing part of their menu is the “create your own finger/fork buffet.” The basic finger buffet is a selection of sandwiches and wraps which you can really make your own by adding some quiches, rolls, afternoon tea items, and canapes. Each add-on was under £1.75 at the time of writing—totally reasonable.
For the fork buffet, the basics are home baked ham, a variety of salads, and a vegetable and feta tart. The savoury add-ons we recommend are the coronation chicken with almonds, the poached salmon, and the Moroccan couscous. For dessert add-ons, the signature larder cheesecake is the only correct choice!
The savoury items are all under £2.25 and the cheesecake is £3. The buffet is available from 9am-2pm on Mondays, 8am-2pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 7.45am-2pm on Fridays, and 8am-12pm on Saturdays.

6. Demetris Taverna
Opened in 1979, Demetris Taverna serves up the best Greek food in Weston-super-Mare. It’s just a 3-minute walk from the Grand Pier, and a great place to eat after exploring the sights of Weston.
The interior at Demetris is nothing fancy but we think that’s because they don’t want to distract the customers from the food – which really is fantastic.
Traditional Greek food is considered to be meat-heavy, with a lot of oregano, and tomatoes on everything. But this is something of a misconception. In fact, for hundreds of years Greeks were mostly vegetarians, only consuming meat on special occasions.
So at Demetris you can expect food true to Greek culture old and new, and you’ll find a variety of authentic vegetarian, vegan, and meat dishes here. Favourites include the grilled halloumi, which is imported from Cyprus, and the chicken souvlaki which is juicy, tender, and served with beautiful, aromatic rice.
And if you’ve never had dolmades, you need to try them at Demetris. These are soft vine leaves stuffed with herbs and spices that are packed with flavour. And of course, you can’t go home without ordering the meze. After all, any celebration of Greek food is incomplete without a glass of wine and a meze platter.
And speaking of celebrations, Demetris can arrange a Greek night on request with live music and belly dancing, so you can party the night away Greek style! Demetris Taverna is open from 6pm-9.30pm on Tuesdays-Saturdays for your dining pleasure.

7. Dr. Fox’s Tearoom
This traditional and charming little tearoom, from its name to its colourful interior, feels like something out of a Wes Anderson movie.
Dr. Fox’s is named after the famous Weston-super-Mare psychiatrist, Dr. Edward Long Fox, and it is located right next to the remains of his treatment rooms. It sits on Knightstone Island away from the chaotic main promenade, and is a peaceful spot for an afternoon cuppa overlooking the sea.
There is a cute outside seating area too, but as that’s small it is only suitable for smaller parties.
As for the tea, well they have a set afternoon tea menu that comes with unlimited tea or coffee, and a separate individual menu. Whatever you get, just make sure you try the scones as they’re all the rage in Weston-super-Mare. There are a variety of sweet and savoury options, but the apple, cinnamon, and walnut scone is a classic.
However we suggest you also try the more adventurous options like the Marmite scone or the double ginger scone. And yes, they do have vegan scones as well!
Aside from the scones, the quiche and the soup-of-the-day are also big hits. Dr Fox’s is open from 10.30am-3.30pm, but afternoon tea must be booked 48 hours in advance and a deposit is required.

8. Sakura Japanese Restaurant
For reasonably priced and authentic Japanese food, and to experience Japanese culture without stepping out of Weston-super-Mare, Sakura is the ideal place.
There is an inviting sushi bar here and the restaurant is decorated with Japanese art. Add to that the Bonsai plants, the ubiquitous use of natural wooden elements, the shoji inspired walls, and the female staff dressed in kimonos, and a visit here really does feel like a full Japanese cuisine experience.
Sakura stays true to a Japanese restaurant’s essence with its peaceful, uncluttered environment and their delicate and alluringly presented sushi. The dragon rolls in particular, and the miso soup, will blanket you with warmth as its deep savoury flavour hits your tongue, accompanied by the salty-sweet richness.
This place also deserves a round of applause for their crab spring rolls which have the perfect shell-to-filling ratio. The grilled duck with a sweet and tangy teriyaki sauce that is not thick or cloying, also lets the duck’s flavour shine through. While the smooth and creamy mango cheesecake will leave you in a reminiscent trance.
Experience the best of Japanese cuisine on Mondays from 6pm-10pm and Tuesdays-Saturdays from 11.30am-2.30pm and 6pm-10pm. Sakura is easily one of the best restaurants in Weston-super-Mare.

9. Scotty’s Lounge and Bistro
This simple yet classic bistro is a must to check out, especially after a nice walk around Weston-super-Mare. The bistro may be small, but it bursts with energy thanks to their wonderfully kind staff that are committed to making your experience special and delivering food that is overwhelmingly tasty.
We recommend going all out with their bottomless brunch, which, as the name bears witness to, generously offers you an extensive brunch with great choices of freshly made and never-ending cocktails, soft drinks, and coffee, all costing around £33.
We also recommend their surf and turf star, the lobster burger, which is cooked flawlessly and served with a rocket and lemon mayo, harmonising indelibly with its taste of garlic butter. They also have fresh oysters and loads more seafood options, perfect for sharing.
