It may be the smallest state in America, but Rhode Island packs a real punch! Every time we visit this state we’re surprised by the many fun things to do in Rhode Island. So much so, that we had to share some of our favorites with you.

So if you’re looking for unique attractions and fun-filled adventures in Rhode Island, read on!

1: Go kayaking!

This state is only 48 miles long and 37 miles wide, but it still boasts 380 miles of coastline!

You can explore Rhode Island’s Atlantic coast, bays, rivers, and inlets by kayak. There’s many kayak rentals around the state, but if you’re not an expert kayaker we recommend heading to Wood River. This slow moving creek will take you through forest, ranch land and meadow. Take a picnic and have lunch by the water before continuing your trip. It’s bliss.

You can also join kayak tours – such as this one. It’s a real fun way to see the state!

2: Drink beer and throw axes…….

You read that right. At Rhode Island’s Axe Bar you can bury the hatchet and your favorite drink!

If you want to release some stress, then go along and ‘free throw’ at targets, or for a bit of competitive fun you can join an axe throwing tournament.

This has to be one of the most unique bar experiences in the U.S.

Anteaters, snow leopards, elephants, flamingoes, and even komodo dragons – you can see them all at  Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence.

Kids will love the different animals at the zoo, and there’s some fun rides and attractions to explore on the 40-acre estate too.

You know the animals are in safe hands too, as  the zoo is part of conservation and breeding programs to help ensure the survival of many endangered species.

Country dancing that is! Join in with the foot-stompin’ fun at Mishnock Barn in West Greenwich where you can enjoy a few drinks and dance the night away on the 3000 sq foot hardwood dance floor!

If you don’t know how to country dance then there are beginners nights on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday where doors open at 7pm. Or, if you just want to enjoy the music and atmosphere, sit at the bar tables and watch the action!

Enjoying a night at the barn is definitely one of our favorite fun things to do in Rhode Island. Check out the barn’s website here.

9: Drink wine and paint a masterpiece

Well it may not be a masterpiece, but at Paint and Vino you can have a go at painting while enjoying a few glasses of wine. Which is perfect, as if your masterpiece is more of a masterflop, you can always blame the alcohol…..

The evening painting sessions last for two hours and are themed: one might be showing you how to paint a lively city scene, while another will whisk you away to a Caribbean paradise.

It’s a fun way to get your creative juices flowing, while letting the drinks flow as well.
