Welcome to Seal Rocks – a dreamy, coastal village with only 130 residents. It may be small but this place packs a real punch and is known for having plenty of attractions. Those include its historic lighthouse that’s still in operation, the pristine beaches – ideal for surfing, swimming, boating, fishing canoeing and paddling – and the stunning Myall Lakes National Park.

As for accommodation at Seal Rocks, you’ll find everything from family run Bed and Breakfasts to quaint little inns.

However, we’ve found that to truly relish this region in all its natural glory, camping in Seal Rocks is the way to go.

This area offers unparalleled camping options with acres of lush green landscapes and options ranging from off-the-grid beachside or lakeside camp-spots to en-suite cabins, and glamorous safari tents for the stylish traveler.

You’ll find campgrounds out in the remote bush, as well as a few just a 15 minute drive from the nearby city of Forster offering all the supplies you may possibly need. All of which makes camping in Seal Rocks an ideal vacation for every type of traveler.

1. Reflections Holiday Park

Reflections is less of a campground and more of a glampground.

This holiday park is sat right by the ocean and is a little oasis nestled between rainforests and beaches, and a haven for those seeking nature in the lap of luxury.

The park offers everything from cabins for couples and groups, beach safari tents and van living options. Of course you can always bring your own campervan or camping equipment and set up base, while enjoying the amenities of the park.

This Seal Rocks camping option also includes a kitchen and a lounge for guests’ convenience, and is suitable for all kinds of travelers from couples to families.

The structures are constructed in a modern, minimalist design style, and colors are neutral, in keeping with the natural colors of sand and water. We really cannot think of a better spot to explore Seal Rocks from!

2. Treachery Camp Seal Rocks

Treachery Camp is the place to be for all the water lovers out there! Surrounded by the Myall Lakes National Park, Treachery offers several accommodation options from campgrounds to cabins. They even have hot showers!

Guests can cook up a storm at the common kitchen equipped with two barbeques and grab a chilled beer at the lounge. Some of the larger cabins even offer their own dedicated kitchens, making it the perfect family getaway.

Have a swim, catch some fish, and warm up by the outdoor fire pit by evening. Sounds good right?

Even though Treachery is a popular spot, cabins are well spaced out, giving guests all the privacy they need. However, it is important to note that the area can get pretty crowded, specially during holidays, so plan wisely!

3. Yagon Campground

This National Park campground is  known for its spacious sandy grounds and great location, situated right behind the dunes and close to a lot of popular sandy beaches. It’s also close to walking and biking trails, picnic areas and Seal Rocks itself.

Fish are aplenty, and the waters by this Seal Rocks camping option are ideal for swimming, surfing and paddle boarding. Camp spots are rustic but literally 400 meters from the water!

Note that unlike some other grounds, the campsites are right next to each other, offering little privacy. Yagon may not come with a plush lounge to chill out at, but it does offer good old picnic tables and barbecues.

It’s also important to note that this site is better accessed with a 4WD.

What’s more – should you seek some civilization, you’re only ten minutes away from the nearest coffee shop and food store.

With so many sites nearby and so much to do, you won’t have a dull moment here.

4. Neranie Campground and Picnic Area

Neranie is nature in all her glory. Expect a campground at a gorgeous site on the shores of the Myall Lake.

Pitch your tent on the beach or on the grass, and swim in the shallow waters surrounded by an abundance of flora and fauna. Don’t be surprised to find some (friendly) wildlife and lizards here.

The waters in this area are a surreal multiple shades of blue, resulting from mineral concentration.

Neranie is popular with families as the shallow waters are relatively safe swimming for children. The water is also ideal for canoeing and boating, attracting not only campers but also day visitors looking to have a picnic.

This spot can get very crowded during the holidays and peak season, so it’s important to plan your trip wisely.

5. Shelly Beach Campground

Welcome to the shores of the country’s largest protected wetlands. But let us just start by saying that Shelly Beach is not for everyone!

You can only access the grounds through a 3 hour walk, a bike trail or by boat! Shelly Beach is as remote and as off-the-grid as you can get.

But that’s what makes the area popular with intrepid campers who love an adventure.

The waters here are ideal for canoeing, and you’ll be surrounded by nature, wildlife and bird watching opportunities. You won’t have to worry about large crowds as only a select few go to Shelley.

If you plan on camping at Shelly, you’ll need to be well prepared, and bring all the essentials like drinking water, flashlights, your own firewood for barbecue, ample food, and all other supplies.

6. Sandbar and Bushland Holiday Park

These campgrounds are situated on an idyllic spot just North East of the Smith’s Lake.

Sandbar and Bushland has a host of amenities like a convenience store, hot showers, and an in house golf course (glamping at its best!), washing machine if needed, and fuel or firewood for barbecues available for purchase. The accommodation options range from camping spots for tents and caravan to en-suite cabins.

Owing to its variety offerings, Sandbar and Bushland attracts all types of travelers – couples, families with kids, as well as large groups.

There is so much to explore around Smith’s Lake – Canoeing, Swimming, Fishing, as well as Paddling. You won’t be disappointed.

Our tip – This Seal Rocks camping ground tends to get pretty crowded during high season. For some peace and quiet try and find a campsite towards the back of the property. You’ll be further away from the amenities but you’ll have more peace and quiet.

7. The Ruins Campground and Picnic Area

Activities Galore!

The Ruins Campground is not only chock-full of activities in and of itself, it’s also close to some attractions you won’t want to miss. As part of the Booti Booti National Park, this Seal Rocks camping option is perfectly situated both by the beach as well as right next to a serene and quiet lake. The waters are perfect for swimming and kayaking.

There are plenty of walking trails nearby too, should you fancy a stroll. Enjoy whale watching? You are just a few minutes walk away from Seven Mile Beach where you might spot some in the wintertime.

If staying here you’ll also find yourself surrounded by lush green which attracts all kinds of birds.

Amenities are in no short supply at The Ruins, as they offer Barbecues, Picnic Tables, hot showers as well as drinking water.

Although you’re so close to nature, you’re only 15 kms away from the city of Forster, where you can find all the supplies you may possibly need.

8. Dees Corner Campground

Dees is another campground that offers plenty of activities. This spot is located just on the banks of the Bombah Broadwater, in the Myall Lakes National Park, offering plenty of opportunity for swimming, paddling, fishing or just taking the boat out into the water.

There’s room for tents, camper vans as well as caravans. You can camp right next to your vehicle.

Just watch out for dingos and rats, specially at night! Dees tends to be less crowded than the other campsites in the area, so rest assured, you will have all the privacy you need.

9. Pacific Palms Caravan Park

Travelers go to Pacific Palms for the two Ls – Location and Luxury.

Pacific Palms is the closest campground to Elizabeth Beach, or Lizzy, one of the Australian East Coast’s most favorite beaches. The beach is protected from big winds and waves, making it very popular for a good swim and surf. Lizzy also has lifeguard patrol during high season.

Also nearby are other popular surf beaches like Boomerang and Blueys.

Need supplies or a good meal? You’re only a 15 minute drive away from the city of Forster. Truly, the location cannot get better than this!

As for luxury, Pacific Palms offers something for everyone. Accommodation options include campsites, as well as Non En-Suite and En-Suite Cabins. Their biggest cabins accommodate up to 6, making it ideal for families and large groups.

You will have access to a common kitchen should you and your family wish to cook. The facilities are well maintained even during the high season.
