The Nine Best Restaurants In Sutton Coldfield: Food Worth Waiting For!

1. The Station

If you’ve got the train to Sutton Coldfield, then The Station will be one of the first places you set your eyes upon.

Located right next to the train station itself, this rustic bar and restaurant has a cosy, homely feel. The food they serve is classic comfort food, like nachos, homemade pizzas, mac ‘n cheese and battered fish and chips. Couple that with the great array of craft beer they serve and it’s pretty impossible to not enjoy yourself here.

Of course there are a variety of vegetarian and vegan options too, so perfect if you have dietary requirements.

Open midday to late every day you can enjoy lunch or dinner here, and may find yourself staying for much longer than expected. That always happens to us when we visit anyway! There’s a sheltered beer garden as well, perfect to take advantage of any sunny days in Sutton.

One of the reasons that we often stay here for hours is the entertainment on offer! If you visit on a Thursday or Sunday you may end up enjoying a few drinks and taking part in one of their pub quizzes. While live bands and DJs are also a regular occurrence on their beer garden stage, as are stand-ups during their comedy nights.

Comfort food, good drinks and fun entertainment – it’s no surprise this is one of our favourite restaurants in Sutton Coldfield.

2. The Bracebridge

Picturesque doesn’t really begin to cover the beauty on offer at The Bracebridge.

Located in the heart of the historic Sutton Park, which you may have already spent the day exploring, come here for dinner and to watch the sunset and experience an exceptional meal. This is one of the most popular restaurants in Sutton Coldfield and no wonder.

The high quality menu is seasonal so subject to change throughout the year. What we can guarantee though, is that the chefs only use the freshest of ingredients. After all, that’s why the menu is seasonal.

However regardless of what season it is, you’re still likely to find a full grill menu and steaks available. Along with many fish options, pizzas and desserts. The friendly staff add to the already wonderful atmosphere and views here, and if you just want to pop in for a coffee and soak in the view, you are more than welcome to do that too.

There’s two places you can enjoy your meal: A more formal indoor setting with a view of the Bracebridge Pool and the park, or a slightly more informal setting outside on their sheltered terrace where you can dine under delicate lights which resemble stars.

3. Brewhouse and Kitchen

This may just be the best restaurant in Sutton Coldfield for a rainy day! This microbrewery is housed in a historic building with a cosy fireplace set against a red brick wall with long hanging Edison bulbs. It is Instagram worthy in every direction.

Of course, if it’s sunny you can also take advantage of Brewhouse’s spacious beer garden. The wooden and brick aesthetic continues there too, and there’s another impressive fireplace.

As for the food, well the menu is mainly American and British cuisine. Try their speciality – the roast chicken which is kept moist by being steamed over a pale ale that’s brewed in house! Sounds as good as it tastes, believe us.

On the subject of food-beer combos, we can’t recommend the Brewers IPA Battered Fish and Chips enough. There’s a range of vegetarian and vegan options too, and a kids menu to ensure there’s something for everyone.

Some people don’t visit here for the food though. Throughout the year there are ‘experience days’ you can take part in. These include beer making classes, as well as whiskey and beer pairing, gin masterclasses and beer masterclasses.

It’s more than easy to pass a whole day here if you opt for one of their experiences followed by a delicious meal.

4. The Windowbox Café

If you are like us, even when away on an adventure you always need a hideaway to catch up with a little work. A friendly caf̩ with an ambience that will allow you to feel relaxed and focused Рyet not in any rush Рmay be what you need. The Windowbox Caf̩ is just that.

Here you’ll be served coffee made from freshly ground beans, tea made from loose leaves and enjoy a menu that is diverse and has many vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.

Open for breakfast, brunch and lunch, the food is freshly cooked with an emphasis on offering simple, healthy options. As for what we recommend, try the ‘Avotoast’ – smashed avocado, poached egg on toast with chilli flakes, or the Halloumi pitta with pomegranate.

There are a range of delicious cakes and smoothies available – the banana bread in particular is very popular.

Whether you are coming for breakfast or brunch, this is a great choice. Plus there are tables outside so you can enjoy any nice weather too.

5. The Funky Bear

Where can you find a great steakhouse in Sutton Coldfield, with mouth watering burgers, steaks and Sunday roasts? Well, The Funky Bear with its generous portion sizes is one of the best in the region, and a place where you are certainly going to get your money’s worth!

The overall feel here is laid back, quirky, and the lighting inside only adds to the ambience once it starts to get dark outside. Like many of our favourite restaurants in Sutton Coldfield, The Funky Bear has a chill outside space perfect for dining al fresco.

We tried the BBQ burger which comes with pulled pork, and the ‘Vegan Bear Calzone’ filled with vegan cheddar, marinated tofu, red onion and sweet peppers. Both were fantastic. There’s an extensive drinks menu too, filled with a variety of wines and cocktails.

On Sundays they have roast chicken, beef or pork with all the trimmings and a rich red wine gravy to accompany it all. It tastes as good as it looked, and as it sounds! When it comes to roasts, this is definitely one of the best restaurants in Sutton Coldfield.

Locals know how good this place is, so it can often be busy. Don’t let a queue put you off though – the staff are extremely helpful and don’t keep you waiting around for long. There is no problem too big for them either, and they always go out of their way to ensure you are satisfied.

As an added bonus, they sometimes have live music in the evenings.

6. Bean Green Kitchen

We all want every bite to taste as fresh as the last – that’s why the quaint Bean Green Kitchen is one of our must-visit Sutton Coldfield restaurants.

If you’re like us, you make an effort to support independent local businesses in the places you visit – as soon as you enter Bean Green you know straight away this isn’t a chain. You will meet wonderful staff who contribute to the lovely customer-orientated atmosphere here.

The menu is filled with healthy and filling options to choose such as their daily homemade soups, the protein pancake stack, beetroot wraps and sandwiches. If you are popping in for some afternoon tea or coffee, be sure to try some of their homemade cakes.

All main menu options are made to order, using the freshest of ingredients. So there may be a small wait for your food. But it’s well worth it as the food is always very tasty.

7. The Old School House

There’s one lesson we’ve learnt at The Old School House – that this may be the best place in Sutton Coldfield for a classic British meal. Expect fantastic British pub cuisine here, always done exceptionally well.

But as soon as you reach this place, you’ll be grabbing your camera! This building was made in the 1800s so there’s plenty of interesting architecture, coupled with more modern finishes. Hardwood floors, grey and white walls, wooden tables and old school windows to let in the light set this restaurant and pub up with a natural ambience you’ll find hard to come by elsewhere.

The enthusiastic staff make sure you feel at home straight away and will get you settled in. Grab something from their great selection of drinks to start and then pick up their ‘Filthy Good Menu’ and browse. With so many hearty options it may take a while to choose.

If you’re after something small to start there is plenty in the ‘Grazer’ section. We’d recommend trying the delicious Biltong or Veggie sliders. As for mains, the Fish & Chips, Steak & Ale Pie and Hunters Chicken were the standouts for us, but you may also enjoy the Dirty Fries or Wings.

If the weather’s nice, grab a local ale and sit outside in the beer garden. If you’re lucky you may turn up on a day where they’ve got live music.

8. Ted’s Baked Potatoes

When you’re out shopping, you might be looking for a place to sit and have a quick but filling bite –Ted’s Baked Potatoes could be the solution.

What started off in 1980 as a family run stand within the shopping centre has grown into a booming business that are sometimes even asked to cater for weddings!

The friendly staff are well known for serving tasty food at affordable prices and cater for all allergies and food intolerances.

As you may have guessed, the majority of the menu is baked potato based, however they also offer soup, cakes, ice cream and hot drinks.

You can make your baked potato as simple or over the top as you wish. Opt for the classic cheese or kick things up a notch with chilli con carne, vegetable curry or beef bolognese!

We overheard one customer saying it’s the best meal they’ve had so far in Sutton, and after trying the food ourselves, we don’t think they were exaggerating. The potatoes really are that good.

9. Pizza by Goli

The comforts of a family meal in a fine dining yet casual setting is exactly what you’ll experience at Pizza by Goli.

Expect freshly made pasta and pizza using authentic, Italian ingredients. This is Italian cuisine done really well, and that’s what sets this place apart from other restaurants in Sutton Coldfield.

The delicately decorated interior with small spotlights and white beams across the entire ceiling, and unique glass tables with views of pasta underneath, make this restaurant really stand out inside too.

Once you’ve ordered your food you’ll have time to take photos and send to your friends as we bet they’ve not eaten anywhere like this before. Be sure to pay attention to the amazing wine list – there is something for everyone who enjoys a glass on there.

What do we recommend? Well the garlic bread may have been the best we’ve ever had, while the breaded scallops with cauliflower foam were another great starter.

The pizzas are even better than that garlic bread (honestly, it’s so good), with the Bolognese Pizza well worth trying. As is vegan pizza The Alba, which has mushrooms, artichokes, egg and oregano.  Classic pasta dishes and desserts complete the menu.

With every portion being generous in size, we’re sure you’re going to be leaving full and wondering about when you will return next.
