You may be a surfer, a photographer or a family looking for a weekend away. But after a couple of days in Croyde you’ll have one thing in common – wondering when you can next return!
That’s because there’s beautiful scenery in every direction here, the surf is excellent, the beach idyllic and the village itself feels full of life and incredibly friendly. That same friendly feel is found down the road in the nearby picture-postcard village of Georgeham too.
It’s not just the walks, views and watersports that have us returning to this area again and again though. There’s another reason we enjoy this place so much and that’s the incredible pubs in Croyde and Georgeham.
And regardless of how you spend your time here, if you’re like us then after a day of adventuring you’ll need some delicious food and a refreshing pint.
There aren’t many pubs in Croyde, or nearby Georgeham, but as you’ll see the few that do exist pack a real punch.

A Guide To The Pubs In Croyde: A Seaside Setting Perfect For Pints
Billy Budds
When the sky is blue and you can feel the sun beating down, it always makes sense to find a beer garden! And the best ones tend to have both the option of sitting in the open to soak up the sun while also providing some shelter and shade for those who forgot their sunscreen!
Well you get exactly that and more at Billy Budds in Croyde, with their fantastic beer garden. Plus, not only does it have views of the nearby hills, it also has plenty of seats so you’re likely to find a place even on the busiest and sunniest of days. And if you have children with you they will be just as happy as there’s a pretty good play area too!
Of course the weather can’t be great all the time – it is Britain after all. So when the temperature does dip and you have to stay indoors, the open fire will be on and roaring – adding to the already warm and friendly atmosphere here.
Inside the décor has that traditional pub look but with a modern finish, and if you plan to stay a while then have a look at the menu as it’s bursting with gastropub dishes.
There’s a range of 12” pizzas to choose from, with the spicy ‘Volcano’ a particular highlight, and plenty of burger choices too. But our top recommendation has to go to the Bourbon and Beer Braised Pulled Pork.
As an added bonus, kids have their own section on the menu and like all good gastropubs there are vegan and vegetarian options too.
If you’ve just popped in for a drink there’s a very well stocked bar at Billy Budds, and if you are looking to watch sport, you can do that right here on the big screen TV too. Anything more? Well they have live music on popular days too!
This fantastic pub is open every day of the week, disabled access is no problem and it’s possible to bring your dog along to enjoy the day. What more could you ask for?

The Thatch
Set in a historic building with a gorgeous thatched roof – hence the name – a drink at The Thatch can quickly turn into an Instagram post!
Of course there’s more to this place than just a pretty picture, and you’ll find good drinks, food, and a friendly warm welcome here as well.
You’ll find all sorts of people here too, from surfers due to its proximity to the sea, to families staying in the campsite nearby.
The building itself dates back to the 16th century, and once inside you’ll see more of that history on display as wooden beams dominate the ceiling, whilst the mix of exposed and painted stone walls continues that cosy old-pub feel. That feeling is amplified further on colder days when the fireplace is lit and keeping everyone warm.
While we love a fireplace, we hope the weather is kind on your visit so you can enjoy the beer garden as nothing beats a pint in the sun!
The Thatch is actually the sister pub of Billy Budds, so you can expect very good food here too. And if you aren’t hungry when you enter this pub, you certainly will be once you start seeing food arriving at different tables – especially the nachos and burgers!
Those nachos and burgers are famous for a reason, but there’s plenty of other meals to choose from too of course, including some great seafood dishes. Just as you’d expect considering the sea is right on the doorstep of this pub.
If you’re on the hunt for ale there tends to be St Austell Tribute on tap at The Thatch beside two changing taps which give other brewers a chance to showcase their skills.
Occasionally there’s also live music played here and they show live sport throughout the day. On top of that there’s disabled access throughout this family friendly pub too, and it’s also dog friendly! It’s easily one of the best pubs in Croyde and the surrounding region.

The Manor House
The Manor House Inn has a fantastic country pub look and feel with wooden tables and white walls, alongside an outside area perfect for people watching, or enjoying a meal and pint during the summer.
One of our favourite features about this Croyde pub is the large restaurant and conservatory which looks out over the courtyard. That also provides a view of the kids play area so you can keep an eye on your children without having to leave the table to check if they’re OK. That’s a big bonus.
As this is a former coaching inn from the 16th century you can sense the history here, and what better way to reflect on times past than with some ale! On tap you’ll find four available with Sharp’s Doom Bar and St Austell Tribute being the two regulars.
What else goes well with a pint of ale? Well, watching sport and live music are two things that come to mind – and you can do both at The Manor House. In fact most weekends during the summer months you’ll find live music here.
As far as food goes there’s lots of British pub classics and seafood dishes to enjoy. They come in generous portion sizes and at affordable prices.
To really get that belt working hard we recommend the Steaks and Burgers here, but if you want to taste that famous Croyde seafood then the Seabass is a fantastic choice too.
There’s clearly a focus on providing the freshest food possible here, and you can’t get much fresher than straight from the sea, so really do try one of their seafood dishes.

A Guide To The Pubs In Georgeham: Quaint Village Pub Life
The Kings Arms
The Kings Arms is a picturesque traditional looking pub which is a great stop on sunny days due to their seating out front and the balcony to the rear.
But should the weather not be in your favour, then you can still take advantage of the sofas next to the fireplace. They are a perfect place to unwind.
For ale there’s usually St Austell Tribute on tap, and if you’re worked up an appetite then lunch is served Wednesday to Saturday from 12-2:15pm, and dinner Wednesday to Friday from 6-9pm. With a selection of sandwiches, pies, burgers, seafood, and fish & chips to choose from, amongst others, you’ll find something for every member of the family here.
In keeping with tradition there are roast dinners available on Sunday too, and those are sold until the food runs out – so don’t arrive too late!

The Rock Inn
Once you’ve enjoyed the pubs in Croyde then this is another option we recommend in nearby Georgeham! The Rock Inn is a beautiful pub which also has that old rural vibe thanks to the low ceiling and wooden beams which creates that cosy, country pub feel.
The drinks menu is surprisingly large so we have no doubt you’ll be able to find something to enjoy, especially ale drinkers as there’s five on tap all-year round.
It’s not just the drinks menu that’s extensive, the food menu is too. On there you’ll find plenty of British pub classics and a few international dishes as well.
Food wise, we would recommend either the Slow Roasted Pork, or for non-meat eaters, the Vegan Burger! There’s some nice dessert options as well, like the Salted Chocolate Fudge Brownie or Sticky Toffee Pudding to name a couple.
