Håfa Adai! Welcome to Guam, one of the largest of the Mariana Islands! This beautiful island is steeped in history and is probably best remembered as the only US territory to be occupied by the Japanese during the Second World War. It is now home to the United States’ Andersen Air Force Base – but don’t let that put you off. Guam has plenty more going for it than just a military base, including a rockin’ nightlife scene.

When you think of Guam, imagine unspoiled jungles, long stretches of sandy white beaches, coconut trees, coral reefs, and turquoise seas. Asides from its beauty, Guam is the perfect combination of the old and the new – its traditions, language, and culture still remain at the forefront of this diverse and multicultural island.

After a day spent touring the island (it only takes 3 hours to drive around the whole island) or indulging in the many water sports on offer – there is everything from snorkeling and scuba diving to parasailing and kiteboarding – it’s time to get ready for Guam nightlife.

Guam truly is the perfect island escape with days on the beach and nights filled with music, drinks and dancing. It is one of those places that finds its way into your heart. Perhaps it’s the combination of its history, beautiful beaches, great food and awesome drinks, but we think it’s probably mostly down to the friendly locals who always seem sad to see you go.

Our Two Favorite Sundowner Spots In Guam

Guam is renowned for its unparalleled sunsets ranging from soft pinks and purples to a spectacular show of bright reds and orange tones.

It really doesn’t matter where you watch the sunset from, it will always be magnificent. Having said that there are a few places that add to the theatre, here are two of our favorites.

1. Guam Sunset Cruise Dinner

There is always something special about watching the sunset from the ocean, especially when it is from a luxury catamaran. Grab a glass of wine, sit back, and relax as you enjoy the calm, clear waters, frolicking dolphins, and the cool ocean breeze.

Besides being mesmerized as the sun dips below the horizon, you can take advantage of the all-you-can-eat buffet which comes with unlimited beer and wine. Not a bad way to kick off the evening.

The cruise only operates on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

2. Tasi Grill

We love Tasi Grill, not only does it serve some of the best food on the island, but the views are spectacular, and their service is unbeatable.

With their relaxed atmosphere, it’s the perfect spot to watch those famous Guam sunsets, just be sure to grab an outside table and that obligatory glass of wine or hand-crafted cocktails – they make some of the best Mai Tai’s too.

And as we mentioned they do serve some of the best food around, so if you are up for an early dinner, we recommend trying their Fish Tacos or the Beer Batter Fish & Chips – we guarantee you won’t be disappointed!

They are open 7 days a week, closing at 9:00 pm.

Our Nine Top Bars & Party Spots in Guam

Guam is roughly divided into 3 regions with 19 villages or municipalities, but you won’t find good nightlife everywhere.

The northern region is a relatively flat limestone plateau and is where you will find the US Air Force base and Dededo, Guam’s most populated village.

Dededo is home to the Micronesia Mall, Guam’s largest shopping mall but it is definitely not known for its nightlife. But if you are in need of a drink, you can always try the Coco Palms Resort which has a small beach bar or the more prestigious Guam International Country Club.

The Southern region of Guam is rural and picture perfect with its volcanic mountain range and rolling green hills. Here you can visit a local Chamorro Cultural Village or see the black sand beaches of Talofofo Bay.

Although you will more than likely find a local bar just about anywhere, when it comes to that quest for ‘vibey’ nightlife, you need to head off to the central region of Guam, specifically to the villages of Hagåtña which is the capital of Guam and Tamuning. The Guam nightlife scene is pretty great there, and you’ll see many of the bars and clubs we feature below are located there.

Tumon which is located in Tamuning and is known as the center of Guam’s tourist industry. The Tumon strip is where it all happens and there you can also find an array of bars and clubs where you can party until the early hours of the morning. It’s another Guam nightlife hotspot.

1. The Beach Restaurant and Bar

You can’t go to Guam without going to the Beach Restaurant and Bar! It is officially Guam’s biggest beach bar and with its large main deck, live entertainment, full-service restaurant, and bar all right on the beach, you can see why it’s one of the most popular Guam nightlife spots.

As the sun sets, this relatively relaxed beach bar with its spectacular views turns into one of the most happening places and one of the perks is you don’t need to even go home to change – partying in bikinis is par for the course.

Known for their signature slushies, cocktails, and craft beers, you might want to order one of their famous beach burgers before partying the night away. Thursday nights are Ladies’ nights which means bottomless drinks for all the ladies and loads of other drink specials throughout the night.

The Beach Restaurant and Bar is open 7 days a week, closing at 10:00 pm Sundays to Wednesdays and at 1:00 am from Thursday to Saturday.

When it comes to drinks, they are renowned for their Shochu selection (a Japanese distilled drink from grains) and signature cocktails. All of their syrups are made from scratch and one of the favorites is their Hibiscus syrup which reminds us, you have to try the Hibiscus whisky sour, you won’t be ordering anything else!

As the name suggests, the garage-themed décor consists of Ford blue walls with license plates in abundance and mechanic-type seating. This is where you will find the perfect ice-cold beer and great food like lemon pepper wings and chili cheese fries.

Add to that a few beer pong tables, karaoke, live music, and dancing and before you know it, you’ll find yourself staying at The Garage until closing.

Guam does love a great karaoke bar and Lava Lounge is the perfect place to perform in front of hopefully an appreciative audience or if you prefer, you can book one of their VIP rooms for a private session.

Saturday nights are one of the favorites here as the drink’s specials are fabulous – $20 buckets of beer, $7 premium liquor cocktails, and more. Nothing like a few of those to help bring the party animals out.

Lava Lounge is one of those places whose party atmosphere and friendly staff makes it the perfect place to hang out with friends and you more than likely will leave with a few more friends than you arrived with.

The friendly bartenders here are waiting to serve you the perfect drink and their full-service bar has just about anything you could ask for – with over 60 different types of beers and whiskeys, we suggest you arrive at Livehouse thirsty.

They boast that they are Guam’s number 1 venue for local live bands, and pride themselves on offering a unique experience, world-class bartenders, and an outrageous environment.

We recommend getting there early and relaxing over a couple of drinks before the music starts at 10:00 pm and doesn’t stop until closing.

They are open from Wednesday to Saturday from 6:00 pm to 2:00 am.

7. Molly’s Irish Sports Pub

Molly’s is a quintessential Irish pub, located next to The W Nightclub which makes it the perfect pre or post-clubbing spot. And as we say, is a place really a place unless it has an Irish Pub?

So, grab a pint of Guinness, sit back and relax. Show off your pool skills or your newly acquired beer pong strategy (yes, beer pong is exceptionally popular here in Guam) and if you want to try a hookah, you’ve come to the right place.

Thursday nights are always a highlight with half-price specials on drinks and even those hookahs. As with any Irish pub, the service is friendly, the drinks don’t stop flowing and the crowd is always ready for a party – you’re bound to make a new best friend.

Molly’s is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 7:30 pm to 2:00 am.

8. Old Traditions Bar

This rustic local bar is always fun and welcoming. They have a superb selection of drinks and they don’t charge tourist prices, which is always a win. The atmosphere is relaxed and a great place to hang out with friends – you never need to be in a hurry to leave, in fact, it is seriously discouraged.

This is the type of place where you can chill listening to live music on weekends or challenge one of your new best friends to a game of big Jenga, darts, pool or take on over one of their several soccer tables.

They are open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 6:00 pm to 2:00 am.

9. The W Nightclub

Weekends are synonymous with the W, one of Guam’s hottest nightclubs. With 3 separate bars and 2 large dance floors, this is the club where music, drinks, and dancing never seem to end.  Live DJs combined with high-tech lighting and sound make it the perfect spot to party until the early hours of the morning.

For those of you looking for a VIP experience, The W offers bottle service which is served in your own private booth.

Our Three Favorite Places To Eat In Guam

As you would expect fresh seafood like fish, octopus, crab, and lobster are in abundance. Locally grown produce includes corn, bananas, mangoes, limes, tangerines, and watermelon to name a few. The local Chamorro cuisine has American, Asian and Spanish influences and is full of flavor and a typical meal always includes red rice, barbecued meat, tortillas, and various vegetable side dishes.

If you get a chance, you must try some keleguen which is a cold appetizer made from beef, chicken or seafood combined with coconut, onions, peppers and lemon juice. Another local favorite is tuba, which is a potent fermented coconut drink – we recommend that you rather line your stomach first.

1. Churrasco Brazilian Steakhouse

Eating at Churrascos is like finding a little bit of Brazil in the middle of the Pacific. If you’re in the mood for meat and lots of it, then you’ve come to the right place. Here at Churrascos, meats are roasted the Gaucho Way, seasoned with coarse salt and grilled over an open flame.

There is a wide selection of various meats and cuts and let’s not forget their salads and hot sides. The Rodizio is a great choice – all-you-can-eat meat, gourmet salads and hot sides and did we mention that there is a continuous table-side meat carving service?

Drinks are equally important, pair your steak with the perfect bottle of wine from their impressive selection or try one of their craft beers. But it’s always worthwhile ordering one of those fabulous Brazilian cocktails while you look through their tantalizing menu – the caipirinhas are particularly good.

Churrascos is open from Thursdays to Sundays from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm.

Location: 1000 Pale San Vitores Rd, Tamuning

2. Meskla Chamoru Fusion Bistro

Owner and Chef Peter Duenas, a native Chamorro, wanted to showcase local cuisine and opened Meskla Chamoru Fusion Bistro back in 2009.  We highly recommend that you head to the capital city Hagåtña for as they say, “At Meskla, you can expect to enjoy island hospitality at its finest and a true taste of modern Chamoru Cuisine…a taste of local home traditions but with a fusion of flavors and style.”

We love the atmosphere and bistro feel of this welcoming restaurant where you can expect to be treated like an old friend. When it comes to recommendations, it really is a difficult choice but you can’t go wrong with their starters of Crispy Fried Calamari or the Kelaguen Hafa (this is the upmarket version). For mains, it just has to be the Chamoru Platter or the Steamed Parrot Fish.

They have an extensive drinks menu with everything from craft beers to wine, whisky and signature cocktails. Order a Calamansi Squeeze, peruse the menu and get ready for a meal you won’t forget in a hurry.

They are open Mondays to Saturdays until 9:00 pm.

3. Mosa’s Joint

There is something about Mosas, perhaps it’s the eclectic décor or their awesome bar but whatever it is, this has become a firm favorite on the island.

They serve some of the best burgers around or as they like to call them, Badass Burgers and trust us, this is not your usual burger selection – there’s the famous Surf All Day Burger made from the freshest fish, topped with a crab cake and if that’s not your style, there are even lamb, turkey and duck options.

And if burgers aren’t your thing, order a margarita pitcher as you’ll need it to look through this extensive menu – it has everything from pasta through to quesadillas and rib eye steaks.

Mosas also has a full-service bar and we seriously appreciate their happy hours – Monday to Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and Thursdays are a firm favorite with a happy four hours from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Mosas is open from Monday to Saturday until 9:00 pm except for Fridays and Saturdays when they close at 10:00 pm

Location: 324 W Soledad Ave, Hagåtña

Guam Nightlife But Done A Little Different….

1. TaoTao Tasi

Every place has those out-of-the-ordinary experiences and Guam is no different. You simply can’t afford to miss the TaoTao Tasi beach dinner show.

Set on Tumon Beach it is one of the largest shows of its kind and without wanting to sound cliched, it definitely is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and definitely one of the best Guam nightlife experiences too.

Get ready for an extravaganza celebrating Pacific island culture through the art of storytelling and dance. Performances by Chamorro warriors, Tahitian belly dancers, and Samoan fire dancers will have you spellbound.

2. Night Markets

Every Wednesday night you can venture off to the Chamorro Village Market. This open-air market has been designed to resemble the old Spanish market. It is the perfect place to try the local cuisine and even take in a Chamorro cultural show. It is popular with locals and people travel from all over the island to enjoy traditional food with friends and family.

Another night market can be found on Thursday nights in the village of Magilao and is another celebration of local cuisine combined with drinks and laughter. It is worth a visit if you’re looking to see another side of Guam.
