The Eight Best Restaurants In Filey For Food, Views & Fun!

1. The Glass House at Charlotte’s

Home to a 200-year-old grape vine, The Glass House at Charlotte’s pays homage to writer Charlotte Bronte whilst being one of the most stylish restaurants in Filey. By combining the natural with the manmade, The Glass House at Charlotte’s has turned itself into the perfect setting for date nights or a night out with friends!

You can enjoy your meal underneath the beautiful grape vine inside, or outside on the terrace where dogs are also welcome. The Glass House is also home to a sleek and intimate cocktail lounge, which can be enjoyed before or after your meal.

The Glass House offers a variety of different dishes from pizza to burgers to steak. But we recommend the hearty Slow Braised Brisket, served on buttery mash with a red wine sauce.

There is also a children’s menu as well as vegan and vegetarian options – our favourite being the ‘Not Chicken Satay’ dish that is served with noodles.

And if you’re a fan of steak, then The Glass House hosts a Steak Night every Thursday between 5pm and 8pm where you can get an 8oz Sirloin for £14.95 at the time of writing.

But for those who aren’t extremely hungry or are just popping in for a quick drink, then we recommend eating from the Graze menu, which consists of small dishes for just a few pounds. The halloumi fries with sweet chilli dip and the salt and pepper squid are unmissable!

Luckily for Filey, The Glass House at Charlotte’s is open every single day from 10am-10pm, bar Sunday when it is open 12pm-6pm.

The cocktail lounge is open every day from 12pm until closing time. In the evenings typically a booking is required, but from breakfast and lunch they operate a walk-in policy!

2. White Lodge Restaurant

For a sophisticated dining experience with a beautiful sea view, White Lodge Restaurant is the place for you!

This restaurant began its life as a Victorian villa and still retains the unique charm that comes with Victorian-era buildings. As for the food, the chefs create a delicious seasonal menu of mainly British fare using locally sourced ingredients that are complemented by a carefully curated wine menu.

White Lodge Restaurant has a lot to offer, from Afternoon Tea that is available between 1pm and 5pm Monday to Saturday, to one of the best roast dinners around every Sunday from noon!

In particular the terrace – with that gorgeous sea view – is the perfect place to enjoy your meal in the summer months. In fact, it’s such a lovely place to sit back and enjoy that many people wrap up in the colder months and enjoy it too! And the icing on the cake? Dogs are welcome as well – and there might even be a treat for them….

But if you don’t wish to brave the British wintertime (and we don’t blame you) why not enjoy a glass of wine in the comfort of the lounge. This homely room will be sure to keep you warm and cosy!

If you find yourself loving White Lodge as much as we do, then you can stay the night in one of the White Lodge’s twenty-one ensuite bedrooms. Most of these rooms have a gorgeous view of Filey Bay, whilst others overlook the leafy green Glenn Gardens. These unique and charming rooms are the perfect place to unwind and relax.

The White Lodge Restaurant is open Monday to Thursday from 8am – 8pm, Saturday from 8am – 9pm, and Sunday 12pm – 7pm.

3. Thirty Coffee Shop and Eatery

For the coffee lovers amongst you, Thirty Coffee Shop and Eatery is the best place to get your coffee fix in Filey. Offering artisan roasted coffee beans in a sleek and modern decor, Thirty is the perfect place to start your morning. There is often a queue, but that just goes to show how loved this place is.

We love the simple pleasure of a latte to wake you up, but we also recommend the mocha here. Its sublime blend of coffee and chocolate is especially good for those who don’t always like coffee.

But don’t think that coffee is the only thing that Thirty has to offer! They also do an incredible breakfast that you cannot miss out on. One popular choice includes the poached eggs, but if you’re looking for something on the sweeter side, you can’t go wrong with the pancakes. They’re the perfect amount of fluffy and will leave you wanting more.

And if that’s not enough to convince you to pop in for a visit, Thirty are also dog friendly so your furry friend won’t miss out on any of the fun either.

Thirty is open every single day from 8 am to 3 pm, but make sure to check their page as they often host evening events. If you’re looking for one of the best restaurants in Filey for breakfast and brunch, then this place is a great choice.

4. Inghams Fish Restaurant

When visiting a seaside town, you can’t skip out on the British institution that is fish and chips! And if you’re looking for the best that Filey has to offer, look no further than Inghams.

Situated close to the beach, Inghams is the perfect little restaurant to grab a quick bite to eat in a warm and welcoming restaurant. And if you don’t want to sit in the restaurant but still want to sample a taste of what Inghams has to offer, you can order takeaway and enjoy it whilst strolling along Filey’s beautiful sandy beaches. Sounds good right?

The food comes in big, hearty portions. The customer service is friendly too, and there’s that special chilled out vibe that is unique to the seaside.

What do we recommend? Well that chippy classic of course – haddock and chips with a side of mushy peas! And since you’re in the North of England, you may as well do as the locals do and smother your food in gravy.

Ingham’s also offers a children’s menu, as well as vegetarian options (including a great veg lasagne), so there’s something for everyone here.

From Monday to Friday, Ingham’s is open from 11.45 pm until 4.15 pm with the takeaway closing at 6.30 pm. At the weekend, it is open from 11.45 until 6.45 with the takeaway closing at 7 pm.

5. The Lighthouse Tearoom

Opened back in 2007, The Lighthouse Tearoom is a family run business that prides itself on serving Filey some of the best homemade breakfast, brunch, lunch, and afternoon tea around. All of which is made with locally sourced ingredients.

The  Lighthouse Tearoom is also a popular spot with families, and has both indoor and outdoor seating options. If you choose to sit outside, you’ll be treated to an incredible view of the beach and the sea.

But if your day is a jam packed one and you don’t have time to sit down, then don’t worry. The Lighthouse Tearoom also does take away so you can enjoy your food on the go!

If you end up visiting for breakfast then try one of their most popular dishes, the smoked salmon and scrambled egg. It’s the perfect way to start any day.

You can also enjoy Afternoon Tea here, which includes your choice of sandwich (we recommend the roast Yorkshire beef sandwich) served with crisps, homemade scones with whipped or clotted cream, a slice of cake and, of course, a pot of Yorkshire tea. No wonder this place is one of our favourite restaurants in Filey for some afternoon indulgence!

Except Friday, The Lighthouse Tearoom is open every day from 10am to 4pm.

6. Bonhommes Bar

No visit to Filey – or indeed anywhere in the UK – is complete without a visit to a traditional British pub, and Bonhommes Bar with its great ale selection, pub food classics, and live entertainment is the perfect place to go.

Situated down a side street and easy to miss, Bonhommes is the hidden gem of Filey. It’s also dog friendly, so your pooch can also enjoy the friendly and welcoming vibes that are unique to traditional pubs like this one!

If you’re in the mood to try some real ale, then Bonhommes has you covered. In particular we recommend Strike – it’s quite subtle in flavour so it’s a great ale to start with if you’re not all too familiar with ale. But if you’re not interested in trying ale, don’t worry. There’s still a wide variety of typical pub drinks and food to choose from.

As well as offering great beer, Bonhommes is jam packed with fun for everyone to enjoy. Thursday is quiz night, Saturday is karaoke night, and on Sunday you can enjoy live music from local artists!

And if you time your day right, you can listen to the brass band play in the nearby Crescent Gardens on Sunday, then pop into Bonhommes to hear even more music.

Bonhommes Bar is open every single day from 11 am to 11 pm, so there’s really no excuse not to pay them a visit.

7. Roasties

If you’re looking for a great place to grab lunch in Filey, then Roasties could be the perfect restaurant for you. It’s a little outside of the town centre, but don’t let that stop you from missing out on the delicious regional food here.

In fact you’ll often find that there’s a queue out of the shop, but that just goes to show that the food is worth the journey. And if you’re on the go, takeaway is also available so you can enjoy incredible food whilst also exploring Filey.

This quaint rustic cafe has a variety of regional and British dishes to choose from, so whether you’re in the mood for hot roast sandwiches or a Sunday dinner, they’ve got it. Our favourite is the Yorkshire Pudding wrap – you just have to try it.

The portion sizes are big, which is always a bonus! And that just means there’s more delicious food for you to enjoy, or share with your family if you’re feeling generous.

Roasties don’t only cater for lunch though. If you’re an early bird, then Roasties also offer up incredible breakfasts. We recommend the Breakfast Box that includes bacon, sausage, egg, baked beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, black pudding and a buttered tea cake. Quite simply the perfect breakfast if you ask us.

Roasties is shut on Monday and Saturday, but otherwise open 8.30 am until 2 pm Tuesday-Friday, and 11pm until 2pm on Sunday.

8. Tommy’s

When you’re in the mood for a more casual dining experience, Tommy’s could be one of the best restaurants in Filey for you!

This wood panelled burger bar is a slice of America in the quaint seaside town of Filey. With music inspired decor and country music playing, you’ll feel like you’re in rural America as soon as you step inside.

Tommy’s boasts an incredible menu with a variety of dishes and drinks, but many who visit Tommy’s come out talking about how incredible the cocktails are. There are lots to choose from, but if you’re indecisive one favourite is the Bakewell Shine which is made of cherry shine, disaronno and lemonade.

If you don’t fancy a cocktail, there are soft drinks available as well as vanilla, chocolate and strawberry milkshakes to try. And if it’s a nice day, then why not take your drink out to the outside patio and take in the rare British sunshine.

The food at Tommy’s is also well worth mentioning. Coming in big portions (this is a U.S. themed place after all!) and at great value for money, you won’t want to miss out on what they have to offer.

But of course no visit to Tommy’s could possibly be complete without trying one of their burgers. Our favourite is ‘The Dolly Parton’ which is a juicy burger patty topped with a delicious six-hour slow roasted gammon. But if you’re not in the mood for a burger, we also highly recommend the chicken kebab that comes with a hefty portion of chips.

And if that’s not enough to convince you to pay Tommy’s a visit, they also host live music events and they’re dog friendly! Just make sure you keep an eye out on their Facebook page so you don’t miss out on the chance to listen to some fun live music.

Tommy’s is closed on Mondays and Sundays, but otherwise open 6pm – 10pm Tuesday to Friday, and 5pm – 10pm on Saturday.
