The Nine Best Places For Brunch & Breakfast In Collingwood: Food Worth Getting Out Of Bed For!

1. Press Market

Press Market is a healthy, organic, plant-based cafe and smoothie bar. It’s a trendy café with plenty of seating available on the patio outside. You can lounge on one of their many chairs, take in the greenery, and nurse that smoothie while reading your favorite book. What a way to start your day.

With a motto of good food and good people, don’t be surprised if you’re greeted with a warm welcome the moment you walk in, and then pleasantly hit by the aroma of freshly baked goods wafting towards you.

Press Market believes that healthy eating doesn’t have to be difficult and that reflects in the menu which has some truly delicious options. For the smoothies we have to recommend the ‘Kale Me Maybe’, not just for the pun, but the delicious concoction of kale, spinach and mango. Honestly, the smoothies are filling enough to be a meal in themselves!

The Acai Berry Bowl is another dish that we hold close to our heart (while being good for it too) which contains mixed berries, banana, acai and coconut yogurt. The muffins here are fresh baked daily too, and you’ll likely be tempted to take one to go.

A counter serve restaurant, service here is quick and efficient. Find them open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday through Saturday. For a fresh, tasty, and healthy breakfast in Collingwood, Press Market is hard to beat.

2. The Iron Skillet Restaurant and Pub

Started by Tony and Doris Sensenberger in 1991, The Iron Skillet has been dishing out world cuisine and Cajun staples ever since.

The restaurant has a distinct nautical vibe, which is no surprise as it is located on the waterfront. There’s a large outside patio which is open in the summer for you to soak in some sun while you dine, so you can enjoy your breakfast close to the water if you’d like.

Inside, Victorian lamps hang from wooden pillars and oak kegs that jut out from the walls. An entire area is even dedicated to shelves holding beer taps, so check to see how many you’ve sampled! Seating is comfortable with wooden chairs and tables adding to the rustic feel.

Breakfast here is served only over the weekends so build up your appetite over the week! The portions are massive too, and will more than fill you up. The Skillet Breakfast is especially humongous, coming with three eggs to order, dollar pancakes, bacon, ham, sausage, home fries, grilled tomatoes and toast. And visit on a Sunday to try Tony’s Special Eggs Benedict which comes from a homemade recipe.

Breakfast here is served from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. weekends only. If you wish to sample their other offerings through the week, regular hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Address: 49 Huron St, Collingwood, ON L9Y 1C5

3. Heavenly Café

Heavenly Café is a European style café and bistro which gives locals in Collingwood a chance to escape to France through its wonderful offerings.

The café marries quaint and comfortable with modern and chic very well. Teacups, saucers and chinaware piled high on the shelves offer a great contrast to the pastel blue walls. Being born from a love of baking, of course there is a display case with fresh croissants, muffins and cookies available to eat. There’s also an entire rack dedicated to gourmet food, sourced locally in the area. That means there’s plenty of stuff you can take home with you!

The Croque Madame is a perennial favorite here, being made with poached eggs, bechamel, ham and gruyere cheese. Apart from that, there’s also a whole host of sandwiches and bagels to choose from with fillings as far apart as ham and cheese to tuna salad! If you’re in the mood to stick around, don’t forget to sample the French Onion Soup which is amazing.

Coffee is ground in house, so make sure to complement that meal with a frothy cappuccino to complete your Collingwood brunch experience in style.

Hours of operation are from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

4. Duncan’s Café

Duncan’s offers classic breakfasts in a relaxed bistro setting

The art pieces on the walls are what will first draw your eyes when you enter, varying from abstracts, to collages to landscapes. The paintings add a touch of flair to the beige and brown furniture and the whole place has the feel of an artsy café about it. Only limited seating is available outside but we think that’s not an issue when you can admire the lovely interiors.

The café features all the standards from omelets, to scrambles and breakfast sandwiches. The Steak and Eggs are popular too, and are cooked to your specification. Rare and over easy? Coming right up!

The Homestyle Fries are also a definite home run in our book, being perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft and pillowy in the middle. If you’re feeling fancy, spring for their specialty Eggs Florentine which comes with baby spinach and homemade hollandaise. Wash it all down with a chai latte which has the perfect blend of spices.

And if you want to come back in the evening, Duncan’s serves steaks, wines and upscale bistro fare, so don’t miss out on that!

This cafe serves breakfast till 11:30 and the lunch menu features soups, salads and sandwiches if you want to visit again. Open from 9am, this is easily one of the best spots for brunch and breakfast in Collingwood.

5. The Alphorn

A homestyle restaurant that celebrates all that is winter, this establishment has been serving guests from around the world since 1977!

There is a lively vibe to the place with a central bar surrounded by comfortable seating arrangements. Various knick-knacks adorn the walls from liquor bottles to skis, and the booths and chairs benefit from the wood paneling aesthetic while the animal trophies provide a log cabin feel. This is a great place to visit with friends and family, simply to take in the surroundings.

As for what to try, we recommend the Schnitz & Eggs here as the restaurant is famed for its Schnitzel. Served with two eggs, Swiss rosti and toast, it is an absolute delight. Keeping with the Alpine theme, the restaurant also does away with the mundane breakfast sausage for a choice of Knackwurst, Weisswurst or Bratwurst.

And if you have a sweet tooth, definitely opt for the Belgian Waffle which is a real treat.

Service is extremely attentive at this Collingwood breakfast joint and they really make you feel at home here. Breakfast is served from 7:00 a.m. to noon, and the restaurant otherwise operates till 9:00 p.m. on weekdays and 10 p.m. over the weekend.

6. Georgian Family Restaurant

Georgian Family Restaurant is a family style establishment that specializes in home style cookery.

This unassuming little joint has bowled us over with its warmth and hospitality. Minimal décor gives off a very old school diner vibe and most of the furniture would not be amiss in a cafeteria. That being said, the place is bright and airy and perfect for a hearty, tasty, and affordable breakfast.

Portion sizes are massive here, so make sure you bring your appetite. The menu is vast and you have the option to customize with sides. The pancake and waffle section is especially good, featuring various fillings and toppings.

It’s the Greek Omelet, however, that has us coming back for more, being filled to the brim with tomatoes, green peppers and feta cheese. There are vegan options as well, and the Vegan Bowl which contains mushrooms, peppers, spinach and broccoli on a bed of home fries, is delicious whether you’re vegan or not.

On top of all that, the service here is stand out with wait staff going above and beyond to make you feel at home. Combined with the wholesome meals, its no wonder this place is called a family restaurant and is one of our favorite Collingwood breakfast spots.

Hours of operation are from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays and 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekends.

7. Gustav Chophouse and Bar

This swanky eatery may be known for its eclectic dishes and steaks, but it also has a modest breakfast menu.

The interiors exude class with leather upholstered furniture and mood lighting. One wall is dominated by a wine rack and landscape paintings dot the rest. There’s a bar as well, where you can pull up a chair for a mid-morning mimosa. Being part of Georgian Bay Hotel – a resort set in gorgeous lush surroundings – also means if you’re staying there you will get a discount on your meal!

Breakfast is served here till noon, so it’s perfect if you’re having a particularly late start to the day. The Eggs Benedict, which features peameal instead of Canadian bacon, is a great breakfast option. The Chef’s Omelet is another standout featuring ham, mushrooms, onions, peppers and 3 cheeses.

Servers are professional and knowledgable, befitting the establishment. Food is prepared to order so there may be a bit of a wait time, but that’s not a problem when you’ve got a full bar at your disposal!

Gustav also has events and live music for lunch and dinner guests, just check their website for updates. Breakfast is served from 8:00 a.m. to noon but the restaurant stays open till 9:00 p.m. All in all, this is a fantastic upscale Collingwood breakfast spot.

8. Sol Kitchen

Sol Kitchen offers fresh, flavorful, globally inspired food in a comfortable setting.

An honest, down to earth café, Sol Kitchen allows its food to do the talking. The interiors are inviting and spacious, featuring wooden furniture and simple counters. The abstract art that hangs from the walls along with the occasional plant brings out a vibrancy in the restaurant, but we tend to make our way to the patio when the weather’s nice for some al fresco breakfast dining.

The menu features soups, salads and bowls with dishes from as far apart as Korea and Mexico. There’s plenty of interesting options to choose from such as the Madras Chickpea and Vegetable Curry Bowl, which features a mildly spiced coconut-based chickpea curry with sauteed bok choy on a bed of brown basmati. All the bowls and salads can be ‘boosted’ with the addition of a protein too.

We also recommend the Tuscan Flatbread for a taste closer to home. Pair it with the soup of the day and you’ve got brunch sorted! The menu is friendly to keto, paleo vegan and vegetarian diets, so you’re definitely going to be covered here.

Service here is friendly and fast, which is great considering the variety on the menu. Hours of operation are from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, which makes Sol Kitchen a fantastic Collingwood brunch spot.

9. Journey’s Blend Café

Coffee with a cause! What started as a café to bring the community together, Journey’s Blend has transformed into a much-loved not-for-profit cafe which offers specialty coffees and light eats.

A quaint small-town café, this place has a very homey feel. Seating is comfortable even if the tables are in close proximity to each other (we think it helps expand on the feeling of community though), and a chalkboard menu displays the café’s offerings which are all prepared in house. Profits and tips gathered from sales all go towards local charities. Which we think is a really nice touch.

The Mocha Peppermint Latte is a huge hit, seamlessly blending the flavors of coffee and mint. The breakfast croissants are also highly recommended – order the bacon, egg and cheese for a nice light meal. There’s also soups, salads, sandwiches and quiches on offer. If the smells of fresh baked goods from this cage have you drooling, get a Danish Pastry or Cinnamon Bun to go!

The service at this Collingwood breakfast cafe is warm, friendly and attentive. For the perfect, light pick me up breakfast, look no further than Journey’s blend. Hours of operation are from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
